Tips on Using F.R.E.D.
Maggie
The magnets are quite strong, so try not to drag them across photographs. This can cause a scratch on the photo’s surface.
The easiest way to remove a magnet is to lean it to one side as you pull it up off the mat.
Sometimes a magnet will jump right onto your scissors if they get close. This is actually a convenient place to keep magnets that you want to grab quickly as you cut and position flair on your mat.
The magnets are a choking hazard to small children and should be stored safely.
Matt
The corner of your mat is bent up intentionally, so the mat can be easily removed without digging your fingernails under the edge. Click here to see what we mean.
Your layouts will stay put when the removable mat is held upright, so feel free to carry it over to other crop tables and show friends your work.
Customers have told us that it’s handy when you’re buying supplies right there at the crop, that you can bring your mat around the aisles to try stuff out!
You can use F.R.E.D. to photograph your work or even hang a mat up with pushpins.
Folding up your double-F.R.E.D.
Fold the legs in on your two F.R.E.D.s and lay them side-by-side on the table. Turn one F.R.E.D. face down over the other, keeping one hand in between them. Latch the top black latches, and then latch the remaining two. Slip that hand out after you’ve latched them together, so the magnets don’t create a pull towards one another. That’s it!
See a folding-up demonstration here.
Other Tips
F.R.E.D. can save you a lot of work when you’re trying to fill one of those photo collage frames with the various shaped cutouts. (Especially if you’d rather not cut up your photos to fit into the holes!) Remove the thin cardboard mat that comes with the frame, stick it onto F.R.E.D. with two magnets, and from start to finish the whole process of positioning and cutting your photos will be easier.
You can clean F.R.E.D. however you want... with a soapy sponge, with a rag and Windex, just about anything except for a scrub-brush.
